Any suggestions? Sure be cool if they made tungsten knives. 8)

Try one made from ATS-34, the one I made has held an edge really well.

I also carry a knife at times. It's the Gerber Guardian Backup Kife...I'm sure no one will be surprised that it's the same knife Lara Croft stores in her boot. The Ruger in the pic is not mine but I like it anyways!

QUOTE FROM WIKIPEDIA:
"The Gerber Guardian: A type of boot knife designed by Knifemaker, Bob Loveless. The knife was made more than twenty years ago. The handle has a hard inner core. The Guardian 1 has a Santoprene rubber coating for a nonslip grip. And has a double-edge blade finished in nonreflective black. It is the blade-weapon of choice used by Lara Croft, of Tomb Raider fame..."

Now that is a nice knife, Queen Kat. I think I ought to look into carrying some of those Gerbers at the next Gun Show in September.
Thanks for sharing that.

If I had the money, I would get a Benchmade Griptilian or Mini-griptilian. Great steel (154CM on the newer ones), great lock (axis), and great handle. The bad news is that they usually run $70 and up.

I just checked my catalog for MSRP's on these Girptilion knives, and yes, the lowest msrp is 90$ and goes to 117$. As a dealer I can get you at least 20% off of the listed price. They look good and would do good by anyone. Just pm me if you want to discuss them.

It is well worth the money spent on an American made product. I have carried a Mini for four years and love it.

I am a HUGE fan of Benchmade knives. Any of them are high quality and you'll be able to open them as fast as an auto (plus they make autos!). I carry the AFO II (and I have 5 other Benchmades), and it is amazing. If Benchmade isn't to your liking, Spyderco makes solid stuff as well, but you'll notice their designs are quite different (many love them).

SOG flash II is what I carry. Its aus8 which is a stainless. You can get them from Lowe's for $39.99 everywhere else that sells them is around $60. It has a blade lock to lock it shut , the clip is reversible for either pocket carry and the lock back mechanism is very solid.

I'd be careful of that... I don't consider that a feature as much as a liability. I once had a knife in my pack that had gotten opened somehow... when I reached into the pack I got a pretty nasty cut.

I've also seen on YouTube someone get cut by a folding knife that had opened in his fanny pack. Looked like he should have needed stitches.

One knife that matches your requirements is the Kershaw JYD II (junkyard dog), titanium scales, with G2 blade steel. It is Kershaw model #1725SG2. It is a relatively expensive knife $180+, but you can buy blems of this knife online from someone who calls himself "kershaw guy", for $79. I bought one and I have been over it a hundred times and I can't see why it's a second. It is by far the sharpest, from the factory folder, that I have. SG2 steel is one of the so-called super steels. It has great edge holding while is still easy to sharpen. You can google both the model and the steel and see what you think. Here is a link to youtube of this knife in hand, to give a sense of it's size and style of opening. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7KyMlm_8nU
There are a lot of knives that will meet your requirements, but this one is the first that came to mind.

I've been very happy with my Kershaw Storm. It is not assisted opening, but has the flipper on the spine to make it really easy to flip open one-handed. It's made of 13C26 steel on the Sandvik grade. I don't know how that compares to the SAE grades, but it's the sharpest folder I've ever owned and it's stayed sharp longer than any. To make the deal sweeter, it's discontinued, so Cabela's is selling buckets of them for $20.

Mine's the plain edge, because I prefer a very sharp plain edge to serrations.

I'm also a big Benchmade fan. Fantastic quality, great steel, great edge. I own a super slim, ulta-lightweight tanto style blade w/ serrations that also has spring loaded assist. You may not need that kind of knife (it's $115). But going with what JonB was talking about...

The following is a very nice Griptilian for $75, no tax, free shipping. You won't regret it.

EDIT: This one is also very nice with Tanto blade and serrations for $59.

EDIT #2: If you want a good knife that looks cool, you can't beat $11 here:

I bought one for my son and he really likes it. Nice steel, nice edge.
