Pre-qualification shooting for the NRA Rifle Instructor Course
Pre-qualification shooting for the NRA Rifle Instructor Course will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, 06 April 2013. Don't be late.

The range is located at the north end of 3600 W in West Weber.

From I-15 north or south bound, take the 12th street exit and head west to 3500 west.
Turn north on 3500 and follow to 3600 west. (You will be heading west).
Turn north again on 3600 west and go to the end of the road. You will pass through a couple of gates. Be prepared for muddy conditions, hopefully it will be dried up by then.

Attached a flyer used for Hunter Ed shooters. The idea and circumstances of the shooting exercises are similar to this training event.
It is not meant to be condescending in any way.
The approach to the shooting qualifications is from the viewpoint of everyone being a brand new shooter.
We will pair up and use the coach/pupil method while on the range.

More precise driving directions to the qualification range:
GPS Latitude 41.271623, Longitude -112.070501

12th Street Exit from I-15
If you are coming from the north, turn right onto 12th Street (UT-39).
If you are coming from the south, turn left onto 12th Street (UT-39).

As a group, we will need to coordinate a date and a time when the majority of us can go and do the shooting before the class. The shooting location is near Mark's location in West Weber. It is helpful if we can have several people come at the same time.
The following dates are available:
Sat 9 March

Sat 6 April
Sat 13 April

When going to the pre-qualification shoot, each person needs to bring a rifle, ammo, a cardboard box, eye and hearing protection and a ground cloth. Mark will have some 9 inch paper plates for targets.

More details to follow as soon as the BSA Council calendar links are updated.

Also, if I recall correctly, NRA instructors who are adding a new specialization must have taken BIT within a year prior to the course. So if your certification is older than that you'll need to take a refresher of the BIT course.

That's correct! Thanks for the reminder Shawn!
Special Note for Current Instructor adding a rating:
Instructors adding instructor ratings in other disciplines by successfully completing the associated instructor courses conducted by an NRA training counselor and submitting an Instructor Application and appropriate fee. When adding ratings, instructors may not be required to attend another Basic Instructor Training (BIT) Course if they have completed that course within the previous year. However, Training Counselors conducting the course may use their discretion and require the candidate to obtain a passing score on the Trainer's Examination or attend the course in its entirety. It is solely up to the Training Counselor conduction the course.
