Yep. I can see it from where I'm sitting. Started/ was big enough to see at about 11:45...
Why, why, why?!? All the antis here at work are up in arms again, about banning shooting on any state or public land... And the way these idiots keep sparking fires, it's getting hard to argue with them.
Watch for smoke, stomp it out. That simple. Come on folks. And no exploding targets in dry brush, duh!

Seriously, Another Fire?

This year has been a black eye for shooters so far... Even if some of the fires really weren't started by target shooters like everyone has said.

I wonder how many of these fires caused by shooters have anything to do with shooting. I know one up by promitory was started by a shooter who parked a hot quad in tall dry grass. There are plenty of things that can start a fire. I don't know any smokers personally (surely they do exist though) that hesitate for a second to toss a butt anywhere that is convenient, even if a receptacle is within arms reach.

I wonder if they're starting to use target shooters as a scapegoat....

I really have a hard time believing that these fires were really caused by just shooting. Maybe shooting at propane tanks, or exploding targets. Other than that, however, I just cannot imagine how the simple act of firing a round into dry grass could start a fire. I just don't see it happening.

Am I wrong?
I hate seeing our kids get shot on the street, I hate it.But that's the cost of freedom. We can ban and confiscate and regulate to our hearts content, and we will undoubtedly save many, many innocent lives by doing so.All for the price of a little freedom.

Especially 20 times this year like the article says.

Now they're saying target shooters MAY be the cause. KSL is slowly getting worse with their news articles.

Yesterday afternoon the fire was pretty high up on the hill. I was thinking, "who drives up that high to target shoot?"

I don't know... I was trying to tell my wife today that a spent casing is not hot enough to start a fire.

It started down low, near the dump.

Ksl radio is saying they're evacuating 1,000+ homes in saratoga springs, and eagle moutatian.

Fox 13 really pushing the narrative that target shooters should be banned because of fires.

Looks like the BLM has banned any steel ammunition of any kind, or at least that's according to KSL. They did air a news conference clip where someone at the fire control center said the same thing, so I assume it's true.

Good point, especially because it was Doug Wright talking about it. I've been searching BLM sites, etc. If they've put the ban in place, they haven't gotten around to posting it on their website, nor can I find any mention of it searching the news. Doug probably decided that they "should" so obviously they "did" because his opinion carries so much weight with the Feds.
