AZ permit also "opens up" NM and KS for us ??

Postby gravedancer on Tue 13 Mar 2012 1:11 pm

I was looking at the interactive map for permits at USACarry.com today http://www.usacarry.com/concealed_carry ... _maps.html

And if their map is to be believed, for UT residents, getting an AZ permit not only opens up carry in Nevada (which I already knew), but also New Mexico and Kansas. Anyone know for sure if that is accurate ?

Yeah I mentioned in my post I already knew it opened up Nevada (which is why I requested my packet from AZ to begin with).

Actually the bill passed in Oregon, but the ammended version that passed no longer contained the changes that wouldve made Oregon recognize any other states permit. After I get my AZ permit, OR will be the next one I get, since most of my family is in Oregon and I travel there frequently.

Does anybody know off-hand what it takes to get an Oregon Permit?

Be an Oregon resident or a resident of one of the adjacent states.

Actually you dont have to be a resident of an adjacent state. Its up to the sheriffs discretion in each county who they issue permits to when it comes to non residents. Basically Oregon is a "shall issue" state for residents, and a "may issue" state for nonresidents, at the discretion of the sheriff. Grant county has a rep for being the most lenient. In fact, theres a letter from the sheriff included in with the application packet that says flat out he will approve a permit for anyone whos not legally barred from having one. Multnomah county (where portland is), its much harder for nonresidents to get permits.

Unfortunately, ORS 188.291(8) states:
(8) The county sheriff may waive the residency requirement in subsection (1)(c) of this section for a resident of a contiguous state who has a compelling business interest or other legitimate demonstrated need.

New Mexico no longer recognizes the Arizona permit according to this Arizona government site:
http://www.azdps.gov/Services/Concealed ... ciprocity/

The New Mexico site still shows that it recognizes Arizona permits:
http://www.dps.nm.org/index.php/nm-conc ... greements/

It would probably be a good idea to verify with New mexico that they recognize the Arizona permit before carrying there if you are relying on the Arizona permit.
