Walther PPQ anyone? *UPDATED*

So lately I have been seeing a ton of people on many other forums discussing the Walther PPQ pistol, and the reviews are probably all around the most positive I have ever read about a pistol. The PPQ has been getting nothing shy of stellar reviews from everyone. Most people have been saying it has by far the best trigger out of any stock gun (besides maybe some 1911s), and supposedly has a .01" reset. It is also claimed to be extremely accurate and ergenomically very well designed (close to the HK P30).

I've been considering getting a polymer 9mm carry pistol lately, and have been going back and forth between a Glock 19 and an M&P9. From what I'm reading, a lot of Glock and M&P fans are saying this gun is better than both of those.
Have any of you guys seen or shot one of these? After reading all the reviews, I'd be very intersted in shooting and maybe purchasing one. I'd love to hear if anyone here has any experience with one. Thanks!

Hmm. Bud's says it's double action, but Wikipedia and and Walther America say the trigger only releases the striker. Sounds single action to me.

And no manual safety. I guess 5.6 lbf and .4 inches is more than my revolvers in SA, but am I the only one who would think real hard before carrying that? I want to like it, but my initial reaction is somewhat concerned.

I would buy one to carry, but i really dont like that mag release. Seems like a sweet gun though. The ergos are strait up amazing

It is striker fired, and I haven't read any reports of anyone having issues with the lack of safety. It's not much different than carrying a Glock. As for the mag release, I thought I would hate it too, but after fondling one at the gun store, it is surprisingly easy to manipulate and it is ambidextrous so you can release it with your thumb like normal, or your pointer finger on the other side which doesn't require moving your hand at all. I was surprised how smooth releasing the mag felt with it, and how much I liked the ambidextrous controls.

I really want to actually shoot one, but I'm having trouble finding a gun store that has one for rent

I thought so too at first, but it's growing on me Looks aside, holding one feels awesome! It feels very similar to the P30 grip

If I wasn't so attached to my USP, I would consider a PPQ. My biggest reason for not carrying a glock is the magazine release. I prefer the lever-style on the USP to the push button on the Glock (because my thumbs are short and I have to dramatically change my grip to reach it). With the lever-style mag release, I simply use my index or middle finger.

Have you tried the Gen4 models? The mag release is easier to reach for those with smaller hands.

Without getting too far off topic, The Glock gen 4 still has a push button, and I prefer the lever over the button.

Haha I'm getting pretty close. So far I like what i've read and felt, but I won't buy a gun before I shoot it, just to make sure I like how it feels and shoots. There has been more than one gun that I liked until I actually shot it. But, if I like how the PPQ shoots, I'll bring it to the next UCC shoot for everyone to try out

Nice, the reason I have never really wanted the HK's or PPQ is the mag release. For some reason I have to hit it with my middle finger, and I think it would really mess up my reloads. To each their own though.

After 100 rounds through my PPQ at the range, I was accustomed to the mag release and now i prefer it. i think it all comes down to what a shooter wants to learn.

I'm still holding out for a slightly shorter barreled version. Half an inch makes a noticeable difference when carrying appendix.

So I finally pulled the trigger and got a Walther PPQ in 9mm! So far it seems like a sweet pistol! I took it to the range today and put 100 rounds through it, and it ran flawlessly. I will include pictures from the first 30 or so rounds so you guys can get an idea of the accuracy.
Some of my thoughts about the gun so far:
1. Great ergonomics! The grip is very similar in feel to the HK P30, and feels fantastic in the hand. The gun seems well built, yet light. It seems like it will conceal very well.
2. Ambidextrous controls. The mag release and slide release are both ambidextrous which is great. The mags dropped free very smoothly and seated well every time. The mag release is a little different (on the trigger guard), but I actually really like it because you can hit the mag release on the trigger finger side without having to alter your grip at all. Very quick and smooth.
3. Accuracy. The gun is very accurate! All the groups I shot were from 30 feet (10 yards), and I shot slower fire for the first mag. The grouping was pretty tight, with only one little flier that was from my own error. Later I did some shooting from concealment with double taps and multiple quick follow up shots, and the accuracy was very good and the gun was very controllable.
4. Trigger. The trigger on this gun is amazing. The reset is incredibly short which results in very quick follow up shots. It’s a similar trigger to a Glock, only better than the Glock trigger IMO. And for the record, I shot a Glock 19 side by side with this gun for testing to feel the difference between the two. The PPQ seemed a little lighter than the Glock and maybe a touch snappier, but the PPQ felt much better than the Glock IMO.
Overall, I was very happy with the gun. It feels great, shoots great, and will make a good carry gun. I’ll make sure I bring it to the next UCC shooting event and you guys can try it out if you want.
