XD Barrel Help

Postby Shadehawk on Tue 28 Jun 2011 10:51 am

I was thinking of swapping the barrel on my XD subcompact 3" to maybe the XDm 3.8 barrel. Since the XDm is .8" longer, will it hurt my slide? Any downsides to doing this? And are there any differences between the two models that would affect fit?

The .8 won't bother it at all.

I don't know about the differences between xd and xdm barrels though. Could work. Or it could fit,.not work, and damage the gun, or not fit at all... :dunno:

Np. Haha. I just know the barrel being longer isn't a issue. Clueless other then that. I'd google it, and check the xd forums. I'll give it a shot later.

I've seen the lone wolf extended barrels for glocks and I thought it looked cool. I found some ported barrels that extend .75" past the frame so unless there are other differences the .8" longer XDm barrel should work. Also, I want something a little more accurate than what I have

Looking cool and a little more velocity is about all you are going to get. You may get better accuracy but you will still have the shorter sight radius which puts the burden on the shooter to perform.

My opinion is that the money would be better spent on range time and ammo to improve your accuracy. 8)

Are ported barrels even effective on a barrel my size?

In theory, the pressure 3" down a barrel is much higher than the pressure 6" down a barrel, so porting will probably be more effective on a shorter barrel than a longer one.
