Place to shoot?

This is a place you can feel free to talk about just about any thing you want. As long as it is family-rated of course.

Place to shoot?

Other than an organized outdoor/indoor shooting range where you have to pay money, is there anywhere in the Salt Lake area where you can legally target practice? Somewhere out in the boonies or something?

Best places are out in the West Desert - or the West side of Utah Lake. I'm usually pinched for time and go to the local range...

Wasatch range above Kaysville is only $7.00 per day or $45.00 for a years membership..only drawback is they're only open four days a week....but they're close, cheap, clean, and a membership includes free targets...yeah, I'm a fan boy..

Where do you live would be a good place to start in directing to outdoor shooting locations...

:agree: If you live in Utah County Lee Kay and the previous mentioned Davis ranges aren't exactly close and local, the west side of the lake is the better option. On the other hand if you live in Ogden, the west side of Utah lake isn't as great a suggestion.

Compared with the money and time spent driving to the west desert, the Wahsatch Range in Davis County is well worth the $45.00 annual cost. Plus it is fairly close to my home.

Totally true, but going to your own private outdoor range removing that always joyfull excitement of being muzzle flashed is priceless. Not to mention you can do exactly what you want to do with draw from holster drills with multiple targets and no fuss chronographing etc. I prefer my private range, when in a hurry though yes I am known to visit a public range.

I know that Wahsatch doesn't have an issue with chrono's, peeps set them up all the time, almost always one or two there when I'm shooting. I've also set up more than one target stand when it wasn't busy...they're flexible. Not sure about practicing drawing, etc...never done it there, nor seen anyone else do it. But all in all, I like the controlled environment of a range, assuming multiple shooters. If you're all by yourself, or with a buddy or two that you can trust, then I think a private range would be great.

Anyway, for this month I'm mostly shooting indoors at Impact, since they give you the free range pass with a gun purchase..

They've recently been a bit nit-picky with those range passes, limiting use to 1 hour when they're busy, which has been almost every day this summer.

You cannot draw from a holster on the public range. However, you can schedule usage of one of the other bays and have a range officer over see. Then you could, we have done ucc shoots there where we practice drawing from concealment, engaging multiple targets. And all sorts of fun stuff.

The OP kind of needs to respond with his location if anyone is going to be able to tell him his closest location.

West side of utah lake is okay but I am kind of sick of that location and over crowding, I now prefer submarine rock in skull valley just the next valley past grantsville. Literally its 30 mins from SLC and baren. Utah lake is 50 mins from SLC.
