Managing Unknown Contacts

Postby Hawk87 on Mon 04 Jun 2012 3:59 pm

I stumbled across this and though I would share. It seems like a really well thought out article, and is a really good read about how to deal with suspicious people. I would really like to get a discussion on this going, and if anyone has anymore material on this subject, please share.

Fair warning, this article discusses how to use profanity in managing contacts, and so it swears twice. If this is a problem mods, please just delete this topic.

Good info Hawk, with lots of food for thought.

Good find Hawk! I need to read and practice more stuff like that.

Thanks for the good information! When I went to California I got checked out by some people that gave me the creeps. Really made me wish I could have had my gun on me...

That was a good read. Now you need to see if you can get together and practice it with some people, get use to watching around you. I know I generally try and watch my surroundings at all times. It bugs me, when there is someone suddenly there that I didn't know was coming. It is the same way when I drive. if a car is suddenly by my side and I didn't see them at least 1/4 mile behind me before they caught up to me, I try and figure out why I didn't see them there.

I would love to get together with some people and practice this. I would really love to take a class next year that teaches some stuff like this, as well as some basic gun retention and combatives. Combine that with some training on contact distance shooting, and you would have a really cool class.

But ya, this is something I would like to find a way to practice.

I guess we need to find someone that knows this stuff, or teach ourselves then put together a class to teach others.

Well I found some more info

Again, fair warning. I do not normally read warrior talk, and have no idea of how family friendly it is. I also have not read the thread, so consider yourself warned.

This write up pulls a lot info from the previous post and adds to it, it is worth it to read both though. I do plan on doing more research and posting it as I find it. I personally think this topic is one of the more important aspects of self defense, and something we don't think about or practice nearly enough.

I guess we need to find someone that knows this stuff, or teach ourselves then put together a class to teach others.

If no one steps forward that knows this kinda stuff (I am holding out hope for some of the trainers here), I would be glad to get together and see if we can get some stuff figured out. I think airsoft and some force on force stuff would be perfect.

+1

I'm up for a get together like this. It would be a great class for sure.

Ok well here is some more stuff...

It seems to me that a large part of managing unknown contacts (MUC) is recognizing when people pose a thread. Therefore I looked up some pre-attack cues.

This seems to be a good coverage of the main parts
http://www.tacticalintelligence.net/blo ... cators.htm
This youtube video is referenced in the above article, but I liked it enough to link to it myself. At the end it shows how to go from a 'fence' stance to some very basic combatives (multiple bracial (sp?) stuns and a knee to the face).

This one is from a LEO stand point (questioning a prep) and has a few diffrent points from the one posted above.

Anyway, I don't mean for this thread to be a info dump, but I have learned a lot reading this stuff, and I find it very interesting. So I figured I would share. I also plan on rereading these links, because there is just so much info there.

Info dumps are very helpful. Thank you for sharing your research. I will look into it when time allows

Next year?? You will be doing these things in 4 days in the Next Step class.
