100 Push ups

Postby Hawk87 on Fri 25 May 2012 1:56 pm

I saw this and decided to give it a try. The goal is to be able to do 100 push ups after a six week training course. I just finished week one, its a good program. I am going to post updates at the end of every week, if anyone wants to follow along.

I have toyed with this a little but should get serious.

Hmm. I haven't seen this one before.

I'll give it the ol' college try. I just downloaded the Android app, and I'll do the initial test tomorrow morning and begin the routine on Monday.

100 Push ups

Postby rccooley on Fri 25 May 2012 7:14 pm

I did this almost a year and a half ago, had to repeat week six once, but really a pretty good program. It is not about building a lot of strength so much as endurance. After I finished I kept going for a while and got up to about 150 pushups before I got bored with it and just started going to the gym every morning. Now I'm over a year with daily exercise and feel great.

If you're really up to it, try the 25 pull ups, 200 squats and 200 sit ups. Between the 4 you can get a pretty good workout at home.

I was doing it for a while, worked up to about 60 pushups. I need to get back to it. Thanks for the motivation!

It's been a long time since I was in great shape and able to do 1000 push ups and sit ups, let alone even 100. Now a days I can do about 20-30 if I really struggle. Some is due to some serious injury which makes doing so difficult. Perhaps I should also work at this, I know it will make me healthier and stronger, with greater inner reserves and improve my endurance and over all health. Just setting aside the time and doing the routine regularly would be a great help, the only issue would be motivation when doing so alone. Maybe I can get my wife to do this with me.

That's what I did. My wife ended up loving it because doing a proper form push up causes you to flex your abs and lower back a certain amount and she was able to flatten her stomach more than she had been able to with sit ups and crunches alone. She has actually started the push ups, sit ups and squats again to try to drop the last of the baby weight.

I can't remember the name of the program, but this reminds me of something that was popular 4-5 years ago.
It was a variation on military-style pyramid set push-ups, but included quick workouts for your back, legs, and abs, to keep from fatiguing the wrong muscles during the push-up workouts.

That program, of course, had a pretty lofty goal, though: A non-stop 35-count pyramid set of push-ups. (350 push-ups)
That's probably why almost no one finished the program. :raisedbrow:
I need a new signature. This one sucks.

Heh....

In high school, in HSROTC, I lipped off a bit to the major, and was told to do 50 pushups. Being a cocky young boy, I asked "Is that all? I'll do a hundred."

The major made me keep my word. And I learned my lesson. :lol3:

I just finished day 3 of the program -- 57 pushups in the books.

Man, I've been sore all week.

Well I just finished week two. Day 3 was a killer. I am in the third column, which means I did a total of 81. I like this program though, it seems to really push me. So far the most improvement has been from my wife. She doesn't have much upper body strength, and has already noticed a difference.

I just did the initial test. I knew I was not in good shape and was too heavy but Really.... sore arms after only 3. Not quite 55 yet. So, I am going to try to do this as part of my Medifast diet plan... lost 18 pounds since I started but still am 260 pounds and looking to get down to less than 180-200 pounds. But I will need help to keep this up to completion.... Any volunteers to be a coach on this to encourage etc. Planning on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

I also did the squats initial test but since my knee injury almost 2 years ago, I'll defer this part until later and less mass. I was lucky to do 10 squats and the right knee was talking to me about it. Never did get thighs horizontal (lacking 15 to 20 degrees).

If you need modivation, just plan on posting your results after each week (like I am doing). We will all be looking for your updates now :shades:
