BTW, where folks are posting 'issued on' ... is that based on the date on the permit or is it based on an inquiry made of BCI?

My only possible hassle will be that I am an American living in Toronto (1.5hrs. from Buffalo, NY) with both a Canadian and a US mailing address. I called before sending in the renewal and was told no problem. Hopefully all goes smoothly on this renewal.

The UTAH or any other state permit is of no use in Canada, of course, but we travel through the US a lot by car.

You folks in Utah may be a lot more fortunate than you think you are. Got a call this morning from a great gal in BCI to confirm my information (a US citizen with both a US and Canadian mailing address having submitted my US Passport photocopy and photographs) and ask me to send in a postal money order for $15 as they weren't sure they could process a Canadian credit card. My application for renewal was received in the mail room Thursday afternoon, so let's assume it was in the BCI offices on Friday sometime. It was already being processed ONE business day later, namely this morning at about 9 a.m. Utah time.

Outstanding. And thank you to the Utah legislature for the common sense regs as compared to some states I have the misfortune of travelling through.

I look forward with great anticipation to visiting the great state of Utah soon and having the wherewithall to protect myself and my loved ones when I am there, against all critters, both four legged and two legged types.

My hat is off to UDPS - BCI.

April 13 - mailed from Toronto (read below; I am an American living in Toronto; sent passport copy, etc)
April 19 - arrived in mailroom at BCI
April 27 - processed and mailed from BCI - Salt Lake City, Utah
May 2 - in my Mailbox

I am grateful for the privileges/rights granted me by the 2A and even more so to the states that recognize them.

I want every single man, woman and child reading this to understand that these privileges are in dire jepeordy in the upcoming election and invest in becoming a member of the NRA and becoming politically active!

Congratulations to all the right-thinking upstanding folks of the Great State of Utah. God Bless you.

PS: Note that this was a renewal.

Sorry to hop in where the question is not addressed to me, but I do a LOT of travelling throughout the US.
It is best to get the information right from the horse's mouth. Visit each state site individually to determine if that state recognizes the permits that you hold. To the extent of checking on it the very day before you enter the state in question; I have had rules change overnight on me and the recent case of NM and AZ reciprocity is a good example........... one day ok, the next day not. A week later okay again.

AND carry copies of FEDERAL interstate transport laws, etc. And copies of all your permits, ID including passport, etc., laminated in a binder. Copies of all interstate agreements that you can get your hands on. That wee binder can make the difference between a visit to your next stop or a visit to the local Sheriff station.

Edit: looks like I was slow to write, and others answered in the meantime, (listen to them, they have more knowledge than I do.)

I know that I'm not dive geek, but handgunlaw.us is a good place to start. Just click on UT, and it will bring up a .pdf with the list of states that accept it, and laws on it. It will also have links to the state website.

Hope that helps.

Explorer is right... http://www.handgunlaw.us is a great place to start and we are grateful for all the hard work they do for us concealed carriers. To get to a state site all one need do is essentially click on the state on their main map and follow the menu. Outstanding and their info is generally up to date as well.

However, nobody is perfect nor can anyone be expected to determine this critical information for us and that is why I strongly recommend that you visit handgunlaw.us and then on to the state(s) that you are planning on either visiting or driving through for the information you need right from the horse's mouth. I would go so far as to make copies of the page(s) in question and stick them in your wee concealed carry binder that you take with you on your travels (you DO have a binder right?).

I would also strongly suggest that you make copies of the Federal laws and AG determinations and carry those to educate the odd LEO you might run into that does not realize that you can transport through their state even though you do not have a valid permit for their state under very specific condiditions (i.e. unloaded and locked up in the trunk... we have an SUV and installed two small safes from Harbour Freight; one for handguns and the other for magazines and ammo. And you must be legal where you start and where you end your journey, etc. In NY and NJ we will not even stop for a whiz with a handgun onboard but that is a story that is for another day and we recommend that unless you have a permit from NY or NJ you do the same).

Happy trails.

Oh. One other thing. Watch the airport thing when flying. If your flight gets diverted and you wind up at an airport where you are not legal you may run into trouble when claiming your baggage to transfer flights, etc. There are several cases where this has happened and folks have been charged and arrested.

My dad and I are turning ours in on Tuesday. Crossing fingers for a short wait time.

I'm late to this discussion, but I turned mine in at the beginning of March 2010, and it was issued on 4/26/2010.

Turned ours in April 27. Paid cash at BCI in person. Still hasn't shown up as of June 14 (48 days tomorrow). Kind of disappointed. Got my Smart Carry, a broken-in Kahr CW9, and am waiting eagerly...
