You only have to register it if you want to try to fit it in holsters or you have it there for service or something. I open carry in Cabela's and Sportsmans and haven't ever had an issue.

:agree:

Leave it in the holster and you are fine

+1 the cabelas and sportsmans "registration" only applys if you need to unholster.

I always thought the idea of checking-in a concealed handgun kinda defeated the purpose :) hehe

Some have been told to register even for carrying. If that happens to you, immediately ask for a manager because you're almost guaranteed to be talking to someone that's brand new. The goal (for me anyway!) isn't to get the employee disciplined, but instead to make sure they're trained on the firearms policies.

edit: I r gud at spelling

They call it "concealed" for a reason. The only time id ever let them know I was carrying was if I planned to remove my weapon from its holster for some reason (to try out a new holster, or have their gunsmiths look at it, or something). If I was going to do that, then yes id follow their "rules" and let them know at the desk what I was planning, just to avoid someone freaking out later when I pull a gun out. Otherwise, i wouldnt say a word.

If I remember correctly, the sign at Cabela's specifically exempts firearms that are to remain in a holster.

i know it used to.... i havent been to cabellas in a while, since I moved out of happy valley a couple years ago. I have to go there sometime soon to exchange a fathers day gift that was the wrong size, so I'll make sure to look when I go.

It did last time I was there. And in my experience, they've been very cool with both folks that carry, and folks that check their gun when they bring it in.

yeah i was there tonight, the sign at the door and the one at their little check in both specifically says just to check in guns that are there for repair, etc. Nothing about checking all firearms

I made the mistake of thinking that you had to check all guns when that counter first showed up.
