First real concealed carry

Postby Q120 on Sun 10 Jun 2012 5:24 pm

I got my CBST yesterday and wore it all day around the house and at my parent's house. Took a bit of adjustment to get the comfort right, but now it is quite comfy! Today, I carried in Sportsman's Warehouse in Midvale, Walmart in Midvale, and the Lowes on 1300 S and 300 W. I had one guy in Walmart brush up against my side a bit and I think he wondered why he felt something solid. Other than that, I don't think anybody noticed but man does it seem like people are staring at you. I'm sure they aren't any more than usual, but your level of perception goes up quite a bit. All in all, the CBST is very comfortable EXCEPT when I am driving. Any suggestions?

Oh also... I accidentally bought some Hornady Personal Defense rounds in the wrong caliber...9x18 (wrong) vs. 9x19 (right)...ugh. Sportsman's, like all other stores that sell ammunition, will not accept ammo returns. Anybody want some critical defense rounds in 9x18? I'll take a $5 loss and let them go for $15...

Good on you for carrying! I've been carrying a few months now. I haven't noticed anyone looking at me funny, though that could be because I deep-conceal. (If anybody ever asks what that bulge under your waistband is, just tell them it's your insulin pump or colostomy bag, and they won't ask any more questions...)

+1 LOL Thats the way to shut ppl up

I dont deep conceal, and few have noticed. Im getting over the "everyone is looking at me" thing. I went shopping at VF factory outlet for clothes with my daughter on Saturday. I was concealing, but just under a loose overshirt. And I am still carrying my winter gun, a big 'ol 45. The result was "exposing" myself everytime i turned around. I know at least 2 changing room ladies and the cashier at the front saw it in all its glory. NOT ONE WORD WAS SAID! Great experience ;-)

It's MWAG calls. Who ever heard of a WWAG call? Women with guns, people think, wow, yeah, that makes sense!

Men do, maybe. Women-- it's about 50/50. Half the women think it's cool that I carry, and the other half respond as if I were carrying a dirty diaper around.

It's a strange feeling, carrying for the first few times out in public. I remember being worried at work thinking someone would notice, but you quickly get used to it and I don't think anyone has ever had a clue that I'm carrying.

I know, huh? It's hard not to check to see if your gun is concealed all the time and thus draw attention to it...

I don't have my permit yet so I CC around the house just to get used to it.
It helps because they all know I have the gun but nobody knows that I carry it.

Since nobody has "made" me there yet, I'm feeling pretty confident that being out in public concealed when I get my permit that it is well hidden, even though I can see it in all sorts of contortions in the mirror

BTW I live in a house full of people who have been around guns forever. I thought someone would have seen it by now but they haven't!

I carry at about 4 oclock and my shirt always rides up... i'm constantly pulling my shirt when i get in public and if my wife tells me my gun is showing
Using the lessons I've gleaned from Zombie movies, I would recommend you have at least one round of ammunition per person currently living within a 30 mile radius of your location...

They make little weighted cords that you could sew into the hem of your shirt to keep it from riding up. They're sold at fabric stores in the section with the curtain hardware.

That's actually an awesome idea. Any idea how much they run?

I may consider making some sort of detachable rig for one so I don't have to sew it into every shirt.

Pretty cheap. They use them in the hems of curtains to keep them down. Not sure how you'd make a detachable rig out of them though. But it wouldn't be that hard to sew them in the shirts that cause you the most problems.

I Never. Ever. Would've thought of that Sara. I carry appendix now, so no big deal, but still a wonderful fix to a common problem.

Eh you're right. I got thinkin about it earlier and feel kind of stupid lol. The only thing I can think of that would be easier is safety pins but they put small holes in shirts and would likely stretch the holes bigger with the weight.
