Idaho Trip

Postby Dirk on Fri 13 May 2011 9:34 pm

I have a question that I am not sure on.

I have a trip to Idaho that will include a stop on the campus of Eastern Idaho Technical College. I know that in general that a Utah CFP is recognized in Idaho and that most of the rules on CC are the same. What I am not sure of is if college campuses in Idaho are off limits or not.

If anyone can give me any quick pointers to CC in Idaho I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

From the Idaho Attorney General Website:

http://www.ag.idaho.gov/concealedWeapons/concealedWeapons_index.html#Are%20there%20places%20where%20I%20cannot%20carry%20a%20concealed%20weapon%20even%20with%20a%20permit

Are there places where I cannot carry a concealed weapon even with a permit?

Yes. You may not carry a concealed weapon in a courthouse, juvenile detention facility, adult correctional facility, prison, jail, public school or private school.
Federal law may prohibit you from carrying a weapon in places such as federal courthouses and airports.
If you have any doubt, you should contact the government entity prior to carrying a weapon onto its premises.

Here is the part that I am unsure of. http://legislature.idaho.gov/idstat/Title18/T18CH33SECT18-3302D.htm

(e) "School" means a private or public elementary or secondary school.

I was under the impression that secondary school is referring to Junior High and High School, not college or a trade school. Maybe a call to the Idaho State Police is in order to clear this question.

Yep, that was the definition of secondary school that I was thinking of. I am feeling pretty sure that if I CC on an Idaho college campus that I will be legal in doing so with my Utah CFP.

Something I saw at the bottom of that AG web page
Does a concealed weapons permit apply only to concealed firearms?

No. A concealed weapon includes any dirk, dirk knife, bowie knife, dagger, pistol, revolver or any other deadly or dangerous weapon.
So be advised Dirk, you and I both have to have a CFP if we wish to conceal ourselves in Idaho.

I just love being considered a deadly or dangerous weapon.

Wait WHAT?

I read that whole secondary education facility as meaning colleges and universities. If so, you CANNOT carry there!
Best check before you're booked!

Secondary education is high school, or equivalent. College or university education, or vocational schools, etc., are tertiary education.
