Clark asked in another thread how to post a photo, so I thought I'd post my answer here to avoid hijacking the thread. 8)

Here's a quick description of how I upload photos and then link to them here...

There are web sites that offer free photo hosting that are oriented toward forums. The one I use is PhotoBucket. Sign-up is free, then you can upload your photos to your online photo album, then copy the forum-oriented address of the photo into your post here.

For example, the address that I copied from my photobucket online album for a picture of my Kel-Tec P-3AT looks like this:

Code:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v69/JeffLorenz/P3AT_NAA_FingerExtension.jpg
Then I wrap the image tags around that address like this (notice that the closing tag has a forward slash in it)...

Code:
[IMG]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v69/JeffLorenz/P3AT_NAA_FingerExtension.jpg[/IMG]
...and it shows up like this:

Of course, photobucket lets you copy the image address with the image tags already around it. It is next to the place that says "IMG Code". If you copy that one, then don't put your own image tags around it again.

Go to the user control panel found under the logo at the top. Then there is an option for avatars. You can upload one as long as it meets the physical size and data size requirements.

Somewhere on this forum a member of the posse (I think) fixed a very long link that I had posted. It was made a whole lot shorter. Would it be possible to show how to do this here?

There are two ways to do it.

The easiest (I think) is to use the URL button at the top of the box where you type your comments.

1. Type the text you want to display (e.g., "this cool web site").
2. Select that text you want to become the link (the blue underlined text you click on).
3. Click the URL button at the top of the comments box. This will put at the beginning of the text and at the end of the text.
4. Edit the first new tag (the things with the square brackets are called BBCode "tags") and change it to display .

This will make it so the text you typed in step one a link to the page with the long address you add in step 4. For instance, [url=http://utahconcealedcarry.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=567]this link
goes to this page.

The other option is to go to http://tinyurl.com/ You enter the long web page address (or URL) there and it will generate a much shorter URL. Simply put the short address in your post, (e.g., http://tinyurl.com/6ytfr6 will link to this page which has a much longer URL of viewtopic.php?f=4&t=567)

Is there a way to post a photo on the site that exceeds the normal 800-pixel-width limitation? For instance, there's a topic over on phpBB.com which shows how a site admin can add an 'image' tag which will automatically resize a posted photo to a certain set width: http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... &t=2114962. I was wondering if such a thing was in play on UCC.

I want to put a link to a photo of my Kimber in my signature but not showing the whole url, I'd like to have some text be the link, like "My 1st carry choice", as long as that doesn't exceed the 255 character limit, how do I do that?

My 1st carry choice

If that is what you want, the code you are looking for looks like this:

Code:
[url=http://www.kimberamerica.com/uploads/product-list-image/covertii/ultracovertii.png]My 1st carry choice[/url]
